Terms and Conditions of Entry

These are the terms and conditions on which you participate in the Queensland Museum Natural Leaders, presented by BHP Billiton, competition.

  1. Instructions on how to enter form part of the conditions of entry. Entry shall be deemed acceptance of these conditions of entry.
  2. The competition Promoter is Queensland Museum, Corner Grey and Melbourne Streets, South Brisbane Qld 4101. ABN: 91 522 611 802.
  3. The competition Sponsor is BHP Billiton Metcoal Holdings Pty Limited of Level 20, Waterfront Place, 1 Eagle Street, Brisbane QLD 4001. ABN: 77 125 531 017.
  4. Entry is open only to Queensland residents registered or enrolled in Year 7, Year 8 or Year 9 in 2016.
  5. Entrants must have parental/guardian consent to enter this competition and the parent/guardian of the Entrant must read and consent to be bound to these Terms and Conditions on behalf of the Entrant.
  6. Applications are open from 12am Saturday 25th June 2016 to 11:59pm Monday 3rd October 2016. Late entries will not be accepted.
  7. An entry is deemed eligible only if the Entrant’s entire Video file is sent to qmnaturalleaders@qm.qld.gov.au while applications are open. Video file must be in a playable format and accompanied by an accurate and legible statement listing the Entrant’s school name and year level as well as the name, phone number and/or email address of Entrant’s parent or guardian.
  8. The Promoter, their agents, affiliates or representatives will not be liable for any late, lost or misdirected entries due to technical disruptions, network congestion or for any other reason.
  9. Entries must be made on an individual basis.
  10. Eligible individuals may submit more than one entry.
  11. The Entrant retains copyright of their work.
  12. The Promoter is granted non-exclusive license to reproduce, wholly or in part, the Entrant’s original submitted work in all marketing, promotional and educational activities associated with the Queensland Museum Natural Leaders program. The winner will not be entitled to any fee for such use.
  13. The Entrant grants the Promoter the right to use their name, biographical information, likeness, and statements for use in marketing, promotional and educational activities in connection with the Queensland Museum Natural Leaders program.
  14. The Promoter reserves the right to edit entries prior to publication, broadcast or distribution.
  15. Each Entrant warrants to the Promoter that all submitted content is entirely the original artistic work of the Entrant and does not infringe the rights of any third party.
  16. The Entrant must obtain prior consent from any person or from the owner(s) of any property that is featured in their Video.
  17. The entry must not feature any copyrighted materials or corporate brand marks; this includes but is not limited to logos, music, images and video footage.
  18. Incomplete, indecipherable, inaudible or illegible entries will be deemed invalid.
  19. Errors and omissions in entries may be accepted at the Promoter's discretion. The Promoter’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  20. Entry is deemed agreement to participate in competition prize activities throughout 2017 including infrequent interstate travel, the delivery of speeches, participation in interviews and the production of content for publication or broadcast, by Queensland Museum, in connection with the Queensland Museum Natural Leaders program. The Promoter will ensure that the schedule of competition prize activities takes into account the winner’s academic workload and other personal and family responsibilities.
  21. If at any time the winning Entrant is unable to participate in scheduled competition prize activities this activity may proceed without the winning Entrant or may be cancelled altogether.
  22. This is a game of skill. Chance plays no part in determining the winners. Each eligible entry will be individually judged based on the originality and creative merit of the Video submitted, as well as the extent to which the Video responds to the challenge: “Make a two minute documentary about your local biodiversity”
  23. There will be one winner and two runners up. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  24. Any public or social media attacks by Entrants or their parent/guardian on other Entrants, judges or the judging process will be taken into consideration by the Promoters. Any situations, materials, discussions or postings that are deemed to be offensive or against the nature of the competition will result in a disqualification of the Entrant.
  25. The winner and two highly commended Entrants will be notified by email or telephone within 5 working days from the date of judging. In the event that the winner cannot be contacted within 10 working days from initial contact, a replacement winner will be chosen by the judging panel and the original winner will forfeit any and all right to prizes. The names of the winner and highly commended Entrants will be published on the Queensland Museum website and may be included in a media release about the competition.
  26. Competition prizes are non-transferable and are not exchangeable for cash. If the prize or any part of the prize becomes unavailable for reasons beyond the Promoter’s control, the Promoter will endeavour but is not obliged to provide a substitute prize of equivalent value.
  27. The competition Sponsor, the Promoter and any contractors, employees and agents associated with both organisations, will not be liable for claims, losses, damages, injuries, costs and expenses suffered, sustained or incurred (including but not limited to indirect/inconsequential loss) as a result of, arising out of, or in any way connected with the competition and/or its prize, except for liability that cannot be excluded by law.
  28. When participating in this competition, the Entrant must not be involved in any conduct or activity that might damage the reputation of the Promoter or the competition Sponsor.
  29. The Promoter may remove or decline to publish any content associated with the Queensland Museum Natural Leaders program without notice and for any reason.
  30. The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entry which, in the opinion of Promoter, includes objectionable content, profanity, potentially insulting, inflammatory or defamatory statements, disqualify any Entrant who tampers with the entry process, who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these terms and conditions of entry or who has, in the opinion of Promoter, engaged in conduct in entering the competition which is fraudulent, misleading, deceptive or generally damaging to the goodwill or reputation of the competition, competition Sponsor and/or Promoter.
  31. The Promoter is not responsible for any loss, damage, cost or expense, whether direct or consequential, that arises from participation in this competition. This includes but is not limited to the costs of production of the Video and Internet service provider costs incurred through the online submission of competition entries.
  32. The Promoter is responsible for all travel, meals and accommodation necessary for the winning Entrant and one adult guardian to participate in competition prize activities that occur outside of the winner’s residential area. Travel itineraries, accommodation and meal allowances will be determined at the Promoter’s discretion.
  33. At all times when participating in activities in connection with the Queensland Museum Natural Leaders program that require travel away from their place of residence, each Entrant must be accompanied by an adult guardian.
  34. The winner will receive a behind the scenes experience at the Queensland Museum in Brisbane (including any necessary travel, meals and accommodation for the Entrant and one adult guardian), a GoPro action camera, a selection of Queensland Museum publications and a limited edition Natural Leaders tote bag.
  35. Two highly commended Entrants will each receive a behind the scenes experience at the Queensland Museum in Brisbane (including any necessary travel, meals and accommodation for the Entrant and one adult guardian), a selection of Queensland Museum publications and a limited edition Natural Leaders tote bag.
  36. All activity associated with the Queensland Museum Natural Leaders program must comply with State and Federal laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Environmental Protection Act, 1994.
  37. The Promoter reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions if this competition cannot be run as originally planned. The Promoter may also cancel or suspend this competition if an event beyond the control of the Promoter corrupts or affects the administration security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition. The Promoter will disqualify any individual who has tampered with the entry process or any other aspect of this competition.
