In an Australian exclusive, Queensland Museum will host the might and power of Ancient Rome when Gladiators: Heroes of the Colosseum opens on 23 June 2017.
Tickets are now on sale for this impressive exhibition which reveals unique insights into the fascinating lives of gladiators and the arenas in which they fought.
Queensland Museum CEO and Director Professor Suzanne Miller said the exhibition featured a stunning array of original artefacts representing gladiatorial life.
“This will be the first time many of these artefacts have been displayed in Australia and will give visitors to the Queensland Museum a unique opportunity to view more than 120 objects up close,” she said.
“As well as viewing these extraordinary antiquities, which include actual pieces of Rome’s famed Colosseum; visitors can learn the story of these armed athletes through interactive games and displays of historical armour.”
The exhibition will explore four themes: Origin and development of gladiatorial games; Gladiators; the Colosseum and the amphitheatre of the Roman Empire; and One day in the Arena, giving visitors a taste of what life was like in this period.
Queensland Museum has partnered with Tourism Events Queensland to deliver this exclusive exhibition.
