A fresh new offering at Queensland Museum

12 April 2017

Queensland Museum is pleased to announce a new partnership with Fresh Catering to deliver restaurant and event catering services at the museum in South Bank.

The announcement follows an open market Queensland Government Procurement process, which sought to engage an operator to add value to the museum experience by implementing innovative solutions, growing the existing business and showcasing potential growth of Queensland Museum as a unique event destination through its function and venue hire aspects.

Queensland Museum Network Director and CEO Suzanne Miller said Fresh Catering had built a firm reputation in cultural institutions across Australia.

“The overall visitor experience at Queensland Museum extends to the café offering and it is critical to work with a partner who matches our passion for excellence. We are delighted to award the new café contract to Fresh Catering, who will provide a new and carefully curated offer in the Brisbane market, with something for everyone,” she said.

“As we continue to renew our galleries and experiences at Queensland Museum, I’m looking forward to Fresh Catering working with our team to transform our venue hire and event catering opportunities.”

Fresh Catering Managing Director Peter McCloskey said the new museum partnership was a wonderful inclusion in the current portfolio of cultural institutions where the company operates.

“This is Fresh Catering’s first move into the Brisbane market and we’re excited about offering Queensland Museum customers a wide range of seasonal and cultural menu options for both café and function patrons,” he said.

“Local produce and menus suited to Queensland’s climate will take centre stage at the new museum café.

“Fresh Catering has a reputation for supporting local suppliers, and Queensland has some of the freshest produce in Australia, we’re excited to be partnering with local producers to support our menu options at Queensland Museum.”

Fresh Catering is an Australian owned and operated company, most well-known for its contract at Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Sydney, and its ability to create exceptional dining experiences at globally recognised outdoor events such as Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour.

Fresh Catering will establish an office in Brisbane and employ up to 30 locals to deliver its innovative new menu to museum visitors.

Queensland Museum has been Australia’s most visited museum for the past two years, and is on track to hold the title for the third year running.

The Café will be open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch from 7.30am-5pm and will also cater for museum venue and functions.

Functions are available to book seven nights a week, in some amazing immersive locations in and around Queensland Museum*.

Fresh Catering has been appointed for an initial seven-year term and will begin operating at Queensland Museum from 10 May 2017.
